2019 / 2020 sees return engagements with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony and Shanghai
Opera House Orchestra.
2018 saw a return to China where he was working once again with Shanghai Ballet, conducting their new production of Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty, choreographed by Derek Deane. He will join them again in November 2019 for The Lady of the Camellias.
Concert platform work has seen him conducting Love Actually in Concert - Film with Live Orchestra , at venues across the UK.
Within the musical theatre world last year Michael spent six weeks in Hong Kong, where he was
conducting the International tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical CATS.
Other notable work includes conductor and orchestrator for the live television broadcast of BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017, conducting the BBC Philharmonic. Conducting the UK premiere Live televison broadcast of The Sound of Music on ITV, conducting the UK debut concert performance of George Gershwin's Of Thee I Sing at
the Royal Festival Hall and Hamlet,
a new full length ballet choreographed by Derek Deane, for which he
created the score adapting and orchestrating music by Tchaikovsky. At the 2016 Chinese Lotus Awards, Hamlet was awarded a gold medal, the highest honour given in China for dance productions.
