Michael has just returned
from his third visit to China where he was working again with Shanghai Ballet conducting the new two act ballet Hamlet, choreographed
by Derek Deane, for which he created the score adapting and
orchestrating music by Tchaikovsky.
At the 2016 Chinese Lotus Awards, Hamlet was awarded a gold medal, the highest honour given in China for dance productions.
He also made his debut with the Shanghai Philharmonic, conducting Prokofiev's ballet 'Romeo & Juliet'.
2017 / 2018 sees return engagements with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony and another return to Radio 2's long running programme Friday Night is Music Night, conducting an all Tchaikovsky programme.
He was the Conductor and Musical Director for the UK premiere Live televison broadcast of The Sound of Music on ITV.
In July 2015 Michael conducted the UK debut concert performance of George Gershwin's Of Thee I Sing at the Royal Festival Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
His compositions include Rosa for the dance company DMD (Sadlers Wells), Exceptional & Extraordinary which toured the UK, and La Destinée, composed for the Royal Ballet School, which premiered at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
